We begin to discuss conceptual ideas about moving through space and how to utilize dynamics. Combinations are lengthy and incorporate the dancers technique and coordination as well as artistic capabilities. Students are strongly urged to begin finding their own “voice.” They should begin discovering how they like to move. Some choreography is left open ended so that experimentation is welcome. As dancers advance we begin using more complicated music (mixed meter, multiple time signatures) students also begin composition exercises like “kinetic response” “group think” and improvisation.

This class will focus on Acro skills that can be incorporated into choreography. Students will learn balance, strength, flexibility, muscle control, discipline & concentration. Each class begins with cardio, strength and stretch exercises that will prepare the students’ bodies for the skills that will be worked on during the class. Throughout class, we will focus on skills that fall into the following 5 categories: Limbering, Balancing, Flexibility, Tumbling and Strength. Since the goal is for the students to eventually be confident enough to perform the skills they're learning on a dance floor without mats, there will be a heavy focus on technique, and proper progressions will be used to teach skills. This class is perfect for the student looking to enhance their strength, balance, flexibility and agility. Because of the nature of this class, the maximum number of students in each Acro class is 10 - 12 (depending on level).

Definition of AcroDance based on the Acrobatics Arts website : Acrobatic Dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to by dancers and dance professionals, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context.
